Monthly Donors Make an Impact for Local Kids

As long-time members of the Lions Clubs, George and Jennifer Winkeler have supported causes like KidSight for 20+ years. This year, they decided to grow their impact by becoming a member of the Circle of Sight with their monthly donation to KidSight.

“We love KidSight!” George said. “We have always supported and believed in the importance of vision care.” When they heard that KidSight had a monthly giving program, they didn’t hesitate to join. They’ve seen firsthand how KidSight changes the lives of children. When asked about their favorite memories of KidSight, Jennifer fondly recalled a screening she attended in 2017.

Jennifer, a retired special education teacher, was screening for KidSight at the SciFest: Healthy U event organized by the Saint Louis Science Center. Part way through the event, she encountered a family which was unsure about the screening. After encouraging the family to allow Jennifer to screen their daughter, they were shocked to discover that she had terrible vision. If she hadn’t gotten that screening, it was likely she would have lost all or part of her sight permanently.

Every year, KidSight screens thousands of children across Missouri. In 2021, KidSight screened over 44,500 children! The COVID-19 pandemic increased the need for KidSight screenings, and we worked hard to screen as many kids as we could. Many experts expect that larger numbers of children have developed nearsightedness during the pandemic due to more screen time and less time outside. Now is a crucial time to catch these vision problems before they impact these children in the long-term. KidSight is not a large organization. Every donation to KidSight goes to support the important screenings and follow-up that we provide. This means every dollar you give has a direct impact on the lives of children.

All you have to do is go to www.kid-sight.org/give and select “I’d like to make a monthly donation.” You can safely enter your information into this secure webform. We have also provided a paper form with this letter which you can mail us. If you aren’t able to make a monthly donation, you can still make an impact with a one-time gift!
